Selichot Shem Tob

It is customary in the people of Israel (of Sephardic origin) to get up early for Selijhot during the month of Elul and the 10 days of Teshuba between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. The reason for doing Selijhot these days is because the month of Elul is considered "Chodesh Harajhamim", (month of mercy) so we take advantage of that opportunity to obtain divine mercy.
